Are We Massachusetts Yet?

Maryland will take one more step towards her complete transformation into a Yankee blue state if Marylanders say yes to same sex marriage on November 6. On election day, perhaps the last free election America will have if Obama wins, voters will have the chance to veto Question 6, a referendum on the Civil Marriage Protection Act which was passed in March of 2012 by the Maryland Legislature. If it isn't defeated, then Maryland will join Massachusetts in changing the definition of marriage.

Disgracefully, there are Protestant ministers who are supporting gay marriage in the name of “equality.” And Catholic clergy with their doublespeak tacitly allow the faithful to vote for pro-gay marriage candidates as long as those candidates support “social justice” and illegal immigration. Some of them are likely reassured by the fact that the law grants clergy the right –how generous of our lawmakers in Annapolis- to refrain from performing same sex marriages...for now.

There is no right to marry another of one's sex (I dont use the term gender as this only applies to grammar). The Constitution does not guarantee such a right. The federal government and state governments for that matter have no business passing laws regulating who may or may not marry. As Ron Paul has said, it is up to churches to marry people not civil authorities.

And dont fall for leftist arguments that marriage equality is justified because same sex partners can be loving and committed. This is beside the point. And neither should you fall for the trope that because all traditional marriages aren't perfect this is proof that other types of marriage might be just as valid. There will always be heterosexual unions that create misery, end in failure, result in abused and neglected children. Human beings are flawed creatures, and there will always be heart breaking situations in families mainly because people have worshiped at the altar of self and have turned their backs on God. No human institution is perfect and never will be.

As a reformed liberal and feminist, I know these words sound corny to the gratuitously cynical especially today's sad and jaded young people. But those who follow the Lord---and I am not talking about those who call themselves believers in God and then do immoral or evil things—will have more successful marriages and families. I also recognize that gay and lesbian individuals can be wonderfully kind and outstanding neighbors. I have two family members who are gay and I consider them estimable people. But none of this has anything to do with what marriage is. It is a union, blessed by God, between one man and one woman. Marriage is the basis for the family, and it is the family which preserves Western Civilisation. In the course of a busy day, the only work that really counts is that related to the raising of children to be moral human beings.

Stand up for tradition and morality by supporting real marriage and its sacred purpose and while you are at it vote only for pro-life candidates. If you call yourself a Christian and do otherwise, you will not be serving God. Take back Maryland by voting to save marriage. Let's not be Massachusetts!
